"When my daughter Samantha was 12 years old, she found a Dalmation dog named Snoopy, running wild in our neighbourhood. As we were new immigrants to Canada and not allowed to keep pets in the townhouse we rented, keeping the dog was not something we could consider. However, she had fallen in love with the dog and its owners did not want it and had moved away. So, we had to relocate to a home where we could keep a dog, which we did. I had one rule, "No dogs on the couch." This rule was broken many times, of which I was unaware, due to Sam and Snoopy's excellent hiding skills. Kathleen Tonnesen (14 July, 1963) is a Canadian self-taught painter (signed as Katon), sculptor, author, poet, and inventor. She was born in Cape Town, South Africa (Kathleen Peers), and immigrated to Canada in 1998. Kathleen holds a Bachelor of Arts, Psychology degree from Thompson Rivers University, British Columbia, Canada. She has carved a professional career as a working artist since 1990 and is a respected international artist dedicated to the enhancement of public spaces with meaningful and thought provoking art. Kathleen is a Shodan (1st degree black belt) in Yoshinkan Aikido who has trained with several leading Aikido teachers in British Columbia.
